Shah Alam: Proton Holdings Bhd (Proton) will introduce new models in the prime market in the first quarter of this year at a price of between RM100,000 and RM150,000 per unit.

Its chairman, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said bookings for the model is already open to the public, but it is still undergoing a testing phase to ensure that the car models to better serve the public.

According to him, PROTON require a long time to market the latest model to enable it to be fully tested, thus avoiding any damage as the previous model, which Preve.

"This model will offer lower prices and competitive compared to imported cars even though it has the same design and performance of foreign brands," he told reporters after a media briefing PROTON yesterday.

At the event, PROTON has also introduced a new logo and Mobile Breakdown Assistance Team, which provides assistance 24 hours and seven days a week across the country involving 24 teams as the start and additions to the team final on May 64.

PROTON capital allocated RM200 million for the development of the new Premium model on which it used the platform luxury sedan Honda Accord as 3,000 earlier edition Proton Perdana model used by top government officials present.

In a similar development, Proton announced the recall program 94.577 vehicle unit that consists of three models, namely Exora, Preve and Suprima began yesterday for the conversion of the oil cooler hose CFE.

Meanwhile, chief executive officer Datuk Abdul Harith Abdullah said, these measures would be implemented to deal with the possibility of damage occurring to the component after a journey of 40,000 kilometers (miles).

According to him, the cost to the oil cooler hose only in approximately RM7 and RM8, but labor costs are expected to be higher because it involves a large number of vehicles.

"We will call the owner of the vehicle model in one by one, especially for a vehicle that hit it with a mileage of this process is expected to be completed within the next six months," he said.

Out of a total of 94.557 vehicles were recalled, as much as 59,663 units of vehicles is composed of Exora, 28,642 units (Preve) and 6,290 (Suprima).

New Proton Perdana Price

EVERY time a new model is launched, Renault was never lonely with negative perception among the people of this country. Proton Perdana is the latest fourth-generation model, which was launched on June 14. Speculation erupted when the new prime is said to be too expensive and a glimpse of the price compared with the Honda Civic, which coincidentally was launched less than a week before the launch of the Proton model.

Many also thought the price of the new Prime overpriced and not commensurate with the position of Proton as the national car. Some even try to compare prime with the new Civic.
If you see a status on social networking sites, there is a saying, "It is better to buy a Civic from Prime. Civic characteristics are good! "Paragraph same is unheard when Proton Preve launch compared to the Honda City and Toyota Vios.
After all, the issue of archaic power windows still be a household name while the matter had been settled the Renault.
The issue, rather than a model that is in a different class. Prime is a model-D segment (mid-size), while the Civic C-segment (compact) is inline with Preve. Instead Honda City and Toyota Vios, including Saga also in the B-segment (subcompact).
Each segment has its own target buyers. C-segment is targeted at buyers who are in a state of maturity in his career, aged between 35 and 45 years, while the segment-D focus on buyers who are at the height of his career, which is 45 years or older.
In addition, the C-segment is also devoted to the high-level executives, vice-D segment to narrow the scope of their executive elite hierarchy as chief executive officer, politician, manager of the company, businessmen and the like. For easy overview, we rarely see a car C-segment vehicle made by a company or government official, or 'boss' car'. Normally, a segment-D model that will be selected. Why? The reason, the dimensions of the segment-D gives the 'status' or 'class' of its own compared to other segments underneath.
Returning to the issue of Proton Perdana, the prime expensive? Why Toyota does not use its own engine? Are Malaysians have noticed there are a lot of other models are included in the Prime expensive price categories with lower specifications? Is Premier worth buying?
Realistically, the Premier should be compared with other models in the same segment as the Mazda6, Honda Accord or Toyota Camry (to name just a few models).
Based on the comparison that has been made, the Prime is much cheaper than its competitors. I repeat: CHEAPER vehicle segment D.
Prime 2016 2.4L variant is priced at RM138,888. For comparison, the closest competitors are Kia Optima K5 (RM150,888), which is the difference RM12,000. But. Kia Optima has a 2.0L engine only while Prime 2.4L. Compared popular D-segment sedan-Malaysia (Camry, Accord and Mazda6), the price differences with Prime reaching range of RM26,000 - RM48,000!
What about the performance of Prime? Why not use its own engine more powerful? Is comparable to other competitors? First, you must know, Proton can not make any changes to the engine based on agreements and strategic alliances with Honda under the initiative of sharing platform.
Similarly, transmission, chassis and safety features. All parts must be maintained as the original. However, Renault plans to replace the Petronas E01 engine is expected to be introduced at the end of 2017 or early 2018. Returning to the comparison of performance, we should recognize basic performance is on par with its prime competitors. Although criticized for using an old Honda engine, borrowed Proton technology is not outdated.
Prime horsepower (178hp) overcome popular opposition such as Camry, Accord and Nissan Teana, free of Mazda6 (185HP) more powerful. In other words, the performance is comparable with Prime other opponents of the present model. This fact is based on technical data and do not mix other issues such as the engine 'borrow', design, tax, comparative cross-segment and so on. A true automotive enthusiasts should remain realistic.
The conclusion so far, in terms of price and performance basis-D model segments, Prime fact not lost or even less. In fact, the price offered is very reasonable and worth it if you take into account the reality of the real market price segments-D in Malaysia. Most importantly, I hope Renault can be increased further after-sales service in addition to ensure the quality of parts is enhanced. Must remember, dead or alive Renault will rely on after-sales service.

Sexy Fast Woman Driver

Driving fast is fun, especially with high-powered cars. Coupled with the powerful sound of the exhaust rumble. In fact, feel proud when a car driven successfully pass other vehicles. Hum was deliberately strengthened to attract other road users.First speeding is referring to the man. Women drivers were labeled as slow.

But the scenario today is different. Eve is synonymous with the racial characteristics of gentleness and good manners, the bold 'compete' on the road with speeding and dangerous. In fact, a study conducted by the Institute of Road Safety Research (Miros) found that, in general, women drivers in the country, driving the speed of the set.

Imagine the millions of users on the roads and highways, only a few who obey the speed limit rules.Miros study also found that 10 per cent increase in speed will increase by 21 per cent of accidents. The rate of fatal accidents and injuries also increased by 33 percent when the rate increased about 10 percent.

But whether the facts and figures are taken care by the drivers as well as women?

No more tenderness for women's reality today is the same boldly and 'great' from the Adam when driving. It is recognized by the Crime Analyst, Kamal Affandi Hashim, who described the act of speeding more harm. It is not only to himself but worse in others.

"Driving fast is not just oil but also lost a major source of accidents.

Believed to be''more difficult when it involves the female driver who is so far known as the most courteous drivers, "he said.

In fact, according to him, no exaggeration to say that some of their more 'malignant' than men are sometimes willing to break the rules that have been set.

''It's fun to drive fast especially when driving high powered cars. But the risk is high to trigger an accident,''he said when contacted recently.

Supposedly they think the impact and consequences of these acts is only harming yourself and others trouble.

Imagine''in the event of an accident would be troublesome to other people killed, injured and causing traffic congestion,''he said.

Usually, said Kamal Affandi, they are driving at high speed does not have enough time to detect and respond to any unexpected situation.

They also will not have time to stop the vehicle in an emergency. In the circumstances reported, the faster the vehicle moves, the greater the risk to deal with accidents.

"Look how many motorcyclists or pedestrians who violated speeding vehicles.

''So we advise to drivers, especially young women to be more prudent when driving and do not regard himself as a village hero is just another burden.

"It is speeding when the accident happened but they started to put the blame on other drivers.

"In fact, there are cases that occur so willing to act wild like hitting or damaging the vehicle involved," he said.

Kamal Affandi said, should women who are born with soft should not be more aggressively continue to behave otherwise gentle and courteous. He himself with the strange behavior of women drivers on the road a bit violent.

''I can not understand, when they knew the correct rules when driving,

"If you really want to drive fast become a professional cyclist who raced at the circuit and not on the road,''he said sarcastically.

Share experiences, Kamal said he never gave advice to women drivers who drive aggressively in the state. But what happened instead was that he was reprimanded for trying to interfere with other people.

''This is the attitude of our drivers, when we were admonished that the blame for the good advice while he, too,''he said.

He said, the attitude is changing even now women seem to have lost the softness that is the woman when to act violently and aggressively. Indeed, Allah is very fair''to make a woman with a gentle and polite, so use the tenderness in the right way and not ruin it,''he said firmly

Meanwhile, the Road Safety Council member, Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye was told, due to speeding drivers attitude is selfish.

''It is actually due to the attitude of the driver itself, not about women or even men.

''For those speeding can provide pleasure and satisfaction in yourself even if the habit is not something that is worthwhile, "he said.

He believes, as responsible citizens, we should be considerate and avoid accidents. With the speed he was driving simply satisfy themselves while the implications of it are greater.

Based on the statistics that are recorded clearly, more than 95 percent of accidents caused by driving too fast. He stressed again, the driving speed can also be deemed to be those who do not know the patient.

''We should be considerate when roads and not selfish and can only be harming themselves, "he said.

Abdul Latiff Osman - Youtube Prodigy

Abdul Latiff Osman, a Malaysian who gained international fame via a popular video sharing website, Youtube, with his design of a Formula 1 powerboat model has struck a deal with US-based veteran FI powerboat designers to market his model in the US.

The Sarawak-born Latiff, whose design caught the eye of a veteran US F1 powerboat designer, Derick Collet, of Mississippi last October, said Collet had agreed to reproduce his model and market it in US soon.

“He (Collet) did not mention when exactly my design will be marketed in the US but presently I am made to understand that my design is undergoing several tests,” Latif told Bernama here today.

He said that there was no formal agreement signed as it was based on trust from both parties.

If the test was successful and the design could be marketed commercially, Latif said, Collet would have to pay him a licence fee to produce the model as well as a royalty fee.
He said he was considering offers to design more powerboat models, including an offer to patent his models but was quick to add that his purpose was for self-satisfaction and not for commecial reasons.

Latif’s special ability has caught the attention of the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry when on Nov 23 Deputy Minister Fadillah Yusof promised to assist the 58-year-old former Formula 3 and Formula 3000 powerboat racer to further enhance his skills in developing small-scale powerboat models. Bernama last month reported that the boat model, named La-tiff Body Guard, was introduced on Youtube more than a year ago.

Latiff was quoted as saying that his model, scaled 1:6, was sent to Collet on Nov 13, and expressing his confidence that if successful, the model’s name ’La-tiff’ would be retained.

Latiff said he had only created and sold his models to fans of remote control powerboat racing and never thought that an outsider would be interested in his model with a power customised-design.

He claimed that there was tremendous response and support to continue creating F1 powerboats after introducing his model on Youtube.

Why Terengganu Bought Mercedes Cars?

KUALA TERENGGANU: The state government has defended the purchase of 14 Mercedes E200 Kompressor cars at RM3.43mil for the use of its state executive councillors and senior officials.

Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said said the state government had planned to purchase the cars for a long time now to replace its Proton Perdana V6 Executive fleet in a move to cut cost.

“Please understand that the Proton Perdanas go through continuous long-distance journeys. It’s costing us a lot of money due to high cost of maintenance.

“We are not saying that the national car is not good but in reality we are coughing up more money for maintaining the Proton Perdanas, particularly the gear boxes,” he said.

Ahmad cited the example of the Proton Perdana of state Commerce, Industry and Environment committee chairman Toh Chin Yaw, which has twice undergone expensive repairs costing RM50,000 within 36 months.

“In the long run, Mercedes cars are cheaper to maintain and could also save us fuel costs.

“This is the state’s long-term plan – we are farsighted. The cars could also fetch a high market price, when sold as second-hand cars.

“We studied all angles before deciding to buy the Mercedes E200 cars,” he added.

Ahmad also denied that the oil royalty money was used to buy the cars.

“In the first place we have yet to receive the oil royalties from the Federal Government.

“The funds to procure the cars were from our own coffers and has nothing to do with the oil royalties,” he said.

Talks Between Volkswagen and Proton Progressing Well
by Benjamin Hudson

In the news: Volkswagen, Europe's largest automaker and producer of the popular brand of VW clutch parts including various VW clutch disc --- has released some statements saying that its partnership with Malaysia's Proton Holdings Bhd is already at its "fairly advanced" stage. The automaker also added that the ongoing talks between them and Proton are part of the company's plan of expanding its market in Southeast Asia. According to Kevin Rose, Volkswagen's head of international sales in an interview, "Both parties clearly know what they would want from such an agreement." He also said that the company will try to "work within" the Malaysian government's set deadline which will end on March 31, 2007.

Still in connection to its sales expansion program, Volkswagen has also added production plants in two of the fastest growing economies in the world---India and China. The main objective of VW is to boost its sales of its Passat and Jetta models in these two countries. It should be noted that Proton has again reported last month its biggest quarterly loss for the last eight years and has been continuously losing market share to its other overseas rivals including Toyota Motor Corporation. It also needs some new technology and designs to become competitive.

Ang Kok Heng, who manages about $114 million at Philip Capital Management in Kuala Lumpur, "There are a lot of things Proton needs to learn in order to be competitive and having a partner will help it catch up with the bigger boys."

Despite the losses that Proton obtains it was still able to obtain an increase in shares which rose to 1.5 percent to 6.6 ringgit and traded at 6.55 ringgit at 11:54 am in Kuala Lumpur valuing the company at 3.6 billion ringgit or $1 billion USD. The stock has fallen by 0.8 percent for this while Malaysia's benchmark stock index has increased by 7.4 percent.

Proton is not actually the first Malaysian automaker that has entered into a partnership with a foreign carmaker, the Shah Alam which is a Malaysian-based automaker have been in partnership with Mitsubishi unfortunately the joint venture only lasted up to 2004.

Another reported foreign automaker the PSA Peugeot Citroen which has been in talks with Proton has announced last week that it is no longer interested in pursuing further talks with Proton on the other hand the world's largest automaker General Motors said that it is still discussing the possibility of a partnership with Proton.

Volkswagen in Controlling Production The Wolfsburg-based automaker said that it has been controlling its local production since it believes that it is a vital strategy to succeed in emerging markets such as Malaysia, China and India. According to Rose at a recent interview in Singapore, "For us as a brand, it's important that we can always say made by VW, or built by VW. Even in China, where for legal reasons we are a minority partner, we still have a great control over the production, assembly, design of our products, and that's incredibly important for us."

Talks between Volkswagen and Proton have collapsed in January last year after some disagreement on issues particularly in terms who will control the company. It is no secret that Malaysia's government controls Proton through a 43 percent stake held by its investment unit Khazanah Nasional Bhd. The Proton was founded by former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad who also stressed the need of the company for a foreign partner to survive.

Volkswagen: Proton's Chosen One Chong Lee Len, an analyst at Hwang-DBS Vickers Research Sdn. in Kuala Lumpur and who rates the Proton stock "fully valued" said that comments from Volkswagen is indicative that the automaker is seeking 51 percent of Proton's total manufacturing business. She also said that Volkswagen is "definitely the chosen one for the stake by the investment community". She added that it would cost Volkswagen about 900 million ringgit to control Proton's manufacturing unit.

Another analyst this time from CIMB Investment Bank said "Volkswagen will use Proton as a manufacturing hub for the region. The deal will help Volkswagen expand its sales in Malaysia, the largest passenger cars market in Southeast Asia. It's positive news for Proton." But of course unless Volkswagen and Proton confirms a partnership then all we'll be having are mere speculations.

Dr Mahathir Mohamad: Ian Chin’s Great Revelation

Ian Chin earlier accusation:

The Star reports:

Wednesday June 11, 2008

PETALING JAYA: A High Court judge here revealed that a former prime minister had threatened judges. Justice Datuk Ian H. C. Chin also said he and selected judges were sent to a boot camp to ensure they got the message.

Justice Chin said this before hearing an election petition challenging the results of the Sarikei parliamentary seat which was won by a Barisan Nasional candidate by just 51 votes.

In a report in the Borneo Post yesterday, that comes hot on the heels of the findings of the Royal Commission on the V.K. Lingam video clip, Justice Chin said the threat from the former prime minister came after he handed down two judgments in 1997.

Ian H. C. Chin

“The only guide to a man is his conscience, the only shield to his memory is the rectitude and the sincerity of his action. In my view, it is an insult to one’s intelligence to be given a directive over the phone that these petitions should be stuck off without a hearing, and above all, it is with prescience conscience that I heard these petitions. God has given me the strength and fortitude, as a lesser mortal, to act without fear or favour, for fear of a breach of oath of office and sacrifice justice, and above all to truly act as a judge and not a “yes-man”.” - Ambiga Sreenevasan, President Bar Council

KUALA TERENGGANU 14 Jun - Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi hari ini berkata, tarikh tepat berhubung peralihan kuasa kepada timbalannya Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak masih belum ditetapkan lagi.

Yes. All authorised dealers have the latest equipment, are regularly audited for quality and have staff who undergo continuous training.

If we compare the total outlay of maintaining a car at an authorised dealer versus that of an independent workshop in the long run, it is actually less in the former instance. This is because although genuine parts are slightly more expensive, they last longer and do not cause damage to your vehicle. Hence, the money you save on repairs and servicing of your vehicle will more than offset the price difference between genuine and non-genuine items.

All Proton Genuine shock absorbers undergo stringent quality control to ensure that only superior products reach the customer. They are produced according to JASO (Japan Automobile Standard Organisation) and ISO 9002 requirements. The technical support that we derive from leading car makers in Japan helps us to constantly improve the quality of our product. They conform to the Original Equipment Manufacturer’s specifications. We rely on our vehicle to perform on cue without any hassle. Using genuine parts will ensure that your car runs smoothly with minimal disruption. You will not have to experience frequent breakdowns, something that happens all too often with defective, imitation parts.

All our vendors work to the same exacting standards as Proton. Our parts are performance tested for safety and reliability and have the full backing of the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), Proton Berhad.

Tun Dr. Mahathir: Openness

Che Det sekali lagi membuka pekong didada sendiri dengan menceritakan segala details apa yang berlaku sekarang didalam kerajaan. Budak kecil pun tahu perkara yang sama juga dilakukan Tun semasa zaman pemerintahan dia dahulu.

There is really no openness just as there is no transparency in this Government. You can deceive all of the people some of the time, some of the people all the time but you cannot deceive all the people all the time.

Tun mengaku dengan beraninya.

Good luck to all of us Malaysian....

Bank Account

1. Several blogs have given space to a scurrilous statement that I, my wife and my children, have USD 199.45 million and S $ 42,000,000 in fixed deposit in the Israeli National Bank in Singapore.

2. The scum who alleges this does not have the guts to give his name.

3. UMNO can make a statement about the money I gave to Dato Abdullah when I stepped down. Better still Dato Abdullah can explain how much of the 1.4 billion Ringgit in cash, shares and property that my staff and one of his Ministers handed over to him is still with him.

4. I give full permission for the Israeli National Bank to make public these accounts so that I can claim the money said to belong to me and my family.

6. As for the anonymous scum, give your true name, I/C and address so that I can sue you.

Dr. M Tak Layak Bercakap Pasal Masa Depan UMNO

Dr. M sekali lagi komen pasal masa depan UMNO di chedet.com:

http://www.chedet.com/2008/06/masa-depan-umno.html

Aku tidak rasa dia layak bersuara pasal masa depan UMNO sedangkan dia sendiri menjadi antara orang paling lantang menghancurkan UMNO.

5. Hari ini orang Melayu terbahagi kepada empat kelompok.

Yela, siapa yang wujudkan kelompok-kelompok itu?

Public Car Auctions: This is probably the best outlet for getting a car below it's trade-in value, and often far below. There really are "cheap cars" at auctions. And anyone can go ... no license is required.

These are bank repo, government and police seized car auctions and there are definitely some deals to be had. While learning "how" to buy a car at an auction isn't difficult, actually locating them in your area can be. Also, finding the exact car you want may take more than going to a single auction.

While many cars at these auctions are high mileage vehicles in need of repair, I'd estimate that 15% to 20% are of the low-mileage, late-model variety.

To learn more, you can take a look at this more extensive article on using and locating open-to-the-public car auctions.

Car Brokers: Next, there are Car Brokers like us. But you should understand what we are capable of and what are our limitations.

Most of us purchase vehicles primarily at Dealer-Only auctions. This means we pay the going "trade-in value" for a car. And then, because brokers should have much lower costs than a traditional Dealership, they can then put a small markup on the car.

The result for the consumer, depending on the actual price paid by the broker, will be a price very near the actual trade-in value for the car.

Using a broker, however, is actually an "easy" method for the car buyer. It takes very little effort because the broker does the work. But if you do the work, there are even better deals.

Cars Sold By Owner: This is another option where some patient shopping should pay dividends. Search for your car at websites such as AutoTrader.com and Cars.com. Also check your local newspaper classifieds section.

Individuals know they can't sell their cars at the same prices as Dealers because there are no services provided and there is very little recourse available for buyers. At the same time, individuals also don't have any Dealership costs to markup for.

Dr Mahathir Mohamad: Snippets

This is the report by TheStar that Dr. M referring to:

One was a judgment on a libel case involving MGG Pillai and Tan Sri Vincent Tan where he refused to give what he considered to be an astronomical award.

Justice Datuk Ian H. C. Chin... he and selected judges were sent to a boot camp to ensure they got the message

Justice Chin said the other judgment was in an election petition on Bukit Bangunan in the Sri Aman Division that he ruled in favour of Independent candidate Donald Lawan against Barisan Nasional candidate Mong Dagang.

“Shortly after the two judgments, the Judges Conference was held from April 24, 1997 where the then prime minister issued a thinly veiled threat to remove judges by referring them to a tribunal and stating that, though it may be difficult to do so, it was still done.”

Justice Chin said the former prime minister expressed unhappiness with what he termed ‘the Borneo Case’.

“Everyone knew which case he was referring to,” he added.

Justice Chin said after the threat, the former Prime Minister said people should pay heavily for libel and he only got a single response from a Court of Appeal judge who asked if he would be happy with a sum of RM1mil as damages for libel.

“He approved of it and later made known his satisfaction by promoting this judge (since deceased) to the Federal Court over many others who were senior to him.”

A month later, Justice Chin said he and select judges and judicial officers were packed off to a boot camp from May 26-30, 1997 where there was an attempt to indoctrinate them with the view “that the government interest was more important than all else.”

“Stating this devilish notion was no less a person than the President of the Court of Appeal. Everyone was quiet during the question sessions.”

Justice Chin added “the perversion of justice” continued and recounted an episode when a fellow judge Muhammad Kamil Awang told him he had received a telephone call from the then Chief Justice asking him to dismiss the election petition that he was going to hear in Kota Kinabalu.

“We went into the possibility of making a police report or of writing to the Chief Justice a letter to record what he had said over the telephone but in the end he decided against it since it would be his word against that of the Chief Justice,” he said.

Justice Chin said he was happy to later on learn that Kamil did not bow to the pressure and went on to hear the petition, thereafter making a decision based on law and evidence.

Justice Chin said he wanted the parties involved in the current petition and their counsel to hear his disclosure in case they wanted him to recuse himself.

The High Court judge said he had twice stood unsuccessfully as a Barisan Nasional candidate for a parliamentary and later for a state seat in Sabah in the 1980s and in one of those elections he was defeated by a DAP candidate.

“Now, though he is no longer the prime minister and so no longer able to carry out his threat to remove judges, the coalition party that he led is still around” and the second respondent was a Barisan candidate and “it may cross someone’s mind that I may have an axe to grind against the party concerned or any party thereof.”

To this, he said: “No amount of words from me would assuage you of your worry. You will have to read my judgments as to whether they are according to the evidence and the law or were influenced by threat.”

Chin then adjourned for half an hour to let the parties consider whether they wished to make any application for his recusal.

However, the parties – DAP’s Dr Wong Hua Seh and Barisan’s Ding Kuong Hiing – expressed their full confidence in him in presiding over the hearing of the case.

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was prime minister at the relevant time. He was not available for comment yesterday.

Based on technology and parts from Mitsubishi Motors, production of the first model, the Proton Saga began in September 1985 at its first manufacturing plant in Shah Alam, Selangor. Initially the components of the car were entirely manufactured by Mitsubishi but slowly local parts were being used as technologies were transferred and skills were gained. The 100,000th Proton Saga was produced in January 1989.[1]

Until the end of the 1990s, the car's logo featured the crest from Malaysia's coat of arms, featuring a crescent and a fourteen-pointed star. The new Proton logo features a stylized tiger head. In 1993, a model called Proton Wira was introduced based on the Mitsubishi Lancer/Colt. More than 220,000 units were sold between 1996 and 1998.[2] Proton Perdana, based on the Mitsubishi Galant/Eterna, was first produced in 1995, intended for higher end market.

By 2002 Proton held a market share of over 60% in Malaysia, which was reduced to barely 30% by 2005 and is expected to reduce further in 2008 when AFTA mandates reduce import tariffs to a maximum of 5%.

Proton Waja (Proton Impian in UK) is the first car model designed internally by Proton. It was launched in early 2001.

With the acquisition of Lotus technologies in 1996 from ACBN Holdings (a company owned by the same person who owned Bugatti), Proton has gained an additional source of engineering and automotive expertise. This led to the production of Proton Gen-2 which was code name Wira Replacement Model (WRM) before the launch. The Gen-2 is the first of cars to be manufactured and assembled at the new manufacturing plant in Tanjung Malim, Perak which is part of Proton City development project. The plant was opened in 2004. On June 8, 2005 Proton introduced the second model to be manufactured in Tanjung Malim, the 1,200 cc 5-door supermini, the Proton Savvy. Both the Gen-2 and Savvy, were models that MG Rover was looking to rebadge when the British firm entered into collaboration talks with Proton. However these joint-venture talks were unsuccessful and MG Rover subsequently collapsed.

In 2007, Proton launch its new sedan as replacement version for Gen-2 Sedan but with new name, Persona. The new Proton Saga replacement model (codename Proton BLM) was launched on 18th January 2008. The new Saga is based on the Savvy platform, but using Campro 1.3L instead of Renault engine.

PADAN MUKA SANUSI JUNID!

Dr. M comment this issue here:
http://www.chedet.com/2008/06/sanusi-junid.html

Previously, TheStar published:

KUALA LUMPUR
: Tan Sri Sanusi Junid has been "relieved of his duties" as International Islamic University Malaysia president with immediate effect.

In his second term now and with two more years to serve, he said he received the letter, dated June 2, on Monday.

The letter was from the Sultan of Pahang, the constitutional head of the university, Sanusi said.

He had previously said he would not step down from the post, which he considered part of his “duty to God and service to the people.”

The former Kedah Mentri Besar said there had been speculation over his post after he had resigned from Umno, following former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s resignation on May 19.

On June 1, Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Khalid Nordin that there was no reason for Sanusi’s services to be terminated unless he “played politics” at campus.

Lancia is set to return to the UK midway through 2009, having departed ignominiously 14 years ago, its range of tinselled Fiats proving about as popular as gelato in a London winter. The car that leads the charge back to to Britain is the new Delta, a quirkily styled five-door hatchback that promises new levels of luxury in the class....

Toyota Australia president and CEO Max Yasuda says the company has talked to governments around the country about giving non-cash incentives to hybrid owners.

“We would hope that the governments will help with more intangible benefits, like free parking or fast lanes. It’s already in place in some countries,” he says.

In California, owners of hybrids have access to peak hour transit lanes and the vehicles get free parking in some cities. In other cities, they are exempt from congestion fees or pay lower road taxes.

Mr Yasuda says governments have been responsive to requests.

“They are not saying no. They are considering it,” he says.

Toyota has not, however, asked for the Federal Government to provide a cash rebate to hybrid buyers, along the same lines as those offered to buyers of LPG-powered vehicles.
